Volunteers will receive a free lunch. Total Number of Volunteers Needed: 5 Find Out More Salud en Accion (Health in Action) needed for More than 1 year Opportunity Description: Salud en Accion is a community based health promotion program that provides Medicare and basic health advocacy within the Hispanic community by: Providing Spanish-speaking beneficiaries and caregivers accurate healthcare information. Total Number of Volunteers Needed: 10 Find Out More Community Health Volunteer (CHV) needed for More than 1 year Opportunity Description: Community Health Volunteers is a corp of community volunteers who will assist Southern Nevada Health District during times of "special need" . Examples of special need include: Back to School Needle Peeling Party: July and August are the months that elementary and high school students receive the immunization shots required for school. To prepare for this event, Southen Nevada Health District has a "Needle Peeling Party" where we prepare the needles which will be used for immunizations. The health district provides movies, snacks and lunch for this 7 hour event. Flu Immunizations: Occur primarily from October thru December. During this time, immunizations increase 400%. Volunteers help clients fill out forms and provide basic information as required. Community Assistance: These volunteers will receive periodic specialized training which will prepare them to assist medical professionals in various scenarios. The Southern Nevada Health District is one of the largest local public health organizations in the United States. The health district serves over 1.7 million residents, which is 70 percent of Nevada?s total population. Also, the district is responsible with safeguarding the public health of more than 37 million visitors to Las Vegas each year.
